A question about temptation etc?

just wondering, say if God has gotten rid of a in your life which is quite unusual (i don't really want to announce it on here) is it possible that you might be maturing steadily on your walk with God and then satan suddenly puts something in your way or thoughts to do with this when you thought it had been dug out for good? if so then what is the point in this when God has already diminished it? =/
